Learning in the arts should be a critical component in the development of every child in multiple ways. Art provides unique opportunities to explore and develop ways of knowing, doing, and being. Art as a core subject allows for the development and mastery of skills, that transforms ideas, images, and feelings into form.[1] Art Education helps students develop key habits of mind that include: higher order thinking, creativity, critical thinking, the ability to pose and solve problems, self-discipline, and self-confidence. These skills are necessary for success in art, and once learned, can translate to success in other areas of school and life. In addition, Fine Arts offers a way of understanding that enables one to make connections between our own culture and the cultures of diverse peoples.

In order to effectively promote artistic learning the importance of passing my knowledge to the students would weigh heavily on my teaching approach. The work of an educator is a unique combination of motivational dialogue, visualization and exploration with materials, demonstration, and reflective discussions.[2] As an educator, it is crucial to build an understanding of Aesthetics as well as Elements and Principals Of Design. Additionally, students will receive instruction that is designed to facilitate their attainment of the New Jersey State Learning Standards.

To be an effective teacher, numerous methods should be used to augment the mind and heart of your student. I deem that these values, along with my own personal skills, will provide me with an opportunity to nurture the ingenuity in the minds of my future students.

Creativity and exploration of materials, lessons, and group work in the classroom, is vital knowledge to teach students at an early age how to think beyond boundaries, as well as gain confidence in the Arts. Art is a great outlet for self-expression and innovation, especially for many who cannot always verbalize their feelings. Children need to be able to interact and be active to prepare themselves for obstacles that they will face throughout life. When students experience and feel a positive atmosphere in the classroom, it drives them toward motivation in their academic achievement.[3]  Having faith and believing in each child allows them to give you the same in return. As an Art Educator, I am committed to doing all that is in my power, by assisting each and every child to a bright and successful future.
